It’s official: Michigan is sports crazy.

A study by WalletHub found that three of the best sports cities are in Michigan: East Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit.

And, sorry, UM, but it’s in that order.

Of 341 cities measured, East Lansing finished third, Ann Arbor eighth and Detroit 11th.

The personal finance website based its rankings on teams’ success, franchise value, ticket prices, viewership size, stadium accessibility and sports bars per capita.

Individual sports also are ranked.

East Lansing’s high ranking was boosted by its status as a football city, No. 2 in the nation, behind Green Bay.

Ann Arbor’s best sport was basketball, ranked 17th in the country.

Detroit’s best showing was in hockey, No. 7.

Our two biggest college towns care about this type of thing, so we’re duty bound to report how they compared sport by sport.

And, yes, little brother ran the board.

Besides No. 2 in football, East Lansing finished 14th in hockey, 15th in basketball and 66th in baseball.

Ann Arbor finished 24th in hockey, 17th in basketball and 84th in baseball.

But Double A still leads in football coaches who wear cheap khakis.

Ann Arbor finished first among midsize cities (100,000 to 300,000 residents).

Not to be outdone, East Lansing finished first among small cities (population under 100,000).

Detroit ranked 13th in baseball, 49th in basketball and 53rd in football (which is what happens when you haven’t won a Super Bowl in … forever.)

Other Michigan cities, and their rankings, were Kalamazoo, 78th; Ypsilanti, 93rd; Mount Pleasant, 94th; Rochester, 200th; Big Rapids, 298th; Houghton, 302nd; Marquette, 308th; and Sault Ste. Marie, 309th.

Besides Green Bay being the best football city, St. Louis was the top baseball town, Pittsburgh was the best hockey city, and Storrs, Connecticut, home of the University of Connecticut, was the top basketball place.
