A Central Texas woman died after someone dropped a rock from a railroad overpass through the windshield of the car in which she was riding.
Temple police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in the Saturday night incident on Interstate 35 that fatally injured Keila Ruby Flores. The 33-year-old Waco woman died Sunday morning at a Temple hospital.
Police say Flores was in the front passenger seat of the car driven by her boyfriend, Christopher Rodriguez. Rodriguez told police that they were returning to Waco from Austin with Flores’ three children in the back seat when a rock the size of a football smashed through the windshield.
“(We were) headed back to Waco on 35 northbound. All of sudden, something just strikes the window,” Rodriguez told KWTX. “An explosion just comes right through the window. I didn’t know what it was. I look over and I see Keila and she is laying there unresponsive. I’m just shaking her, trying to wake her up, (but) she was unresponsive.”
No one else in the car was injured.
Rodriguez and the Flores family are asking for the public’s help identifying the person who threw the rock.
Investigators are asking anyone who has any information to contact the Temple Police Department at (254) 298-5500.
Rodriguez told the Temple Daily Telegram Flores leaves behind three children, ages 6, 12 and 14.
He said she was a strong and independent woman.
“Always had a smile on her face no matter what the situation was,” Rodriguez said. “She was a very hard worker and made sure that she got done what needed to be done.”
