NAFC seeks input on sports, e-learning – The Courier-Journal (blog)
During a meeting with parents and other community members on Monday, New Albany-Floyd County school board members hope to discuss elementary-level sports and online learning.
Last month, board members began brainstorming ways to offer elementary school students more options when it comes to school-sponsored sports. The district rolled back some of its sports programs about five years ago, in light of state budget cuts.
Right now, third and fourth-grade students wanting to play sports have to sign up for leagues through Floyd County Parks and Recreation and local churches, which board member Lee Ann Wiseheart has said don’t have the resources to keep up with the high demand and don’t offer the array of sports the school corporation once did.
Monday’s meeting will be the second community meeting between three school board members and concerned citizens. The board hopes these quarterly meetings will improve communication between the district’s leaders and the public.
The full board will not be present at the meeting, and no votes will take place, Wiseheart has previously said in an email.
“It is truly a two-way conversation, with the Board members listening more than speaking,” she said. “We want the community to know that this Board is committed to serving the community and making decisions that are in the absolute best interest of our children.”
The meeting will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. at Green Valley Elementary, 2230 Green Valley Rd. in New Albany.
