- DAZN will cost €9.99 (£8.60) per month and show 8,000 events a year
- Fans will be able to watch football from Europe’s top five leagues
- Tennis, darts, basketball and American Football will also be available
The wayfootball fans watch the beautiful game is about to change for ever – in Germany at least – with the launch of a new Netflix-style service giving supporters access to football on demand.
DAZN launched this week in Germany and allows football fans live on-demand access to every football match across Europe’s top five leagues as well as other sporting events all for €9.99 (£8.60) per month.
DAZN gives sports fans live access to some of the best sports tournaments in the world, including exclusive access to the Premier League, starting with this Saturday’s opener between champions Leicester and Hull, as well as every match live from La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1
Sports fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will be able to watch 8,000 live events on-demand including live Premier League football
Fans in Germany will be able to watch Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United
The service will also show highlights of every match from Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 – but not show live domestic games as those rights are held by subscription channels Sky, Eurosport and free-to-air ZDF.
On top of live football there are expected to be 8,000 live events a year including NBA, NFL, tennis, motorsports, boxing, ice hockey, rugby, darts and more.
‘We won’t make the broadcasting choices for you,’ said Simon Denyer, chief executive of Perform Group, the sports content provider behind the initiative. ‘As a subscriber you’ll have the freedom to set your own sporting agenda. We’re delivering something very different.’
DAZN has launched in Germany this month and will allow fans access to live sport
The Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 will be available on-demand on DAZN as well as the NBA, NFL as well as tennis from the ATP and WTA tours and PDC Darts
Currently the DAZN is only available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and should it ever become available in the UK in the future then it is extremely unlikely that they will be able to show Premier League games due to the money paid by Sky and BT.
Between them, Sky Sports and BT Sport have shelled out £5.36billion to show live coverage of the English top flight, with this the first season of a three-year mega-deal.
Sky Sports have the rights to the bulk of the games – showing 126 live matches – while BT Sport will air 42 live Premier League clashes.
