Evan Murray, quarterback of the Warren Hills Regional High School football team in Warren Hills, NJ, died Friday night after an injury sustained in a game.

According to Jim Deegan of NJ.com, Murray took a hit in the first half of their game Friday and walked off the field under his own power. Around halftime, he collapsed on the sideline, got back up, and was taken to an ambulance.

School superintendent Gary Bowen said the entire community was mourning the passing of Murray, a senior.

“We’re all very deeply saddened by the passing of Evan Murray,” Bowen said, according to lehighvalleylive.com. “Warren Hills Regional High School is making available grief and crisis counselors who will be available to speak with the students this weekend so that moving forward they can access the services.”

Murray was a three-sport athlete, playing baseball and basketball in addition to football.

A few of Murray’s teammates took to Twitter to remember him.

Warren Hills finished their game against Summit, which they lost 14–12.
