New sports fad: Blame Taylor Swift – New York Post

The power of Taylor Swift is no laughing matter, just ask Patrick Kane.

The 26-year-old winger, who helped the Chicago Blackhawks clinch the Stanley Cup earlier this summer, reminisced about his rookie season with then-coach Denis Savard during the team’s fan convention this past Saturday. While Kane has certainly come a long way since his days a first-year pro, Savard shared the “Bad Blood” singer did get the better of Kane during a matchup against the Nashville Predators.

As Savard recalls, Kane must have been distracted by the two “gorgeous blondes” sitting behind the bench, which led to a Predators goal. As the Blackhawks boarded the bus after topping Nashville, 6-1, Savard discovered his prized rookie was still chatting up said blonde and her gal pal. After scolding Kane for his postgame rendezvous, the NHL superstar did get the opportunity to explain himself the next morning.

“You know who the two girls were, one of them was Taylor Swift,” Savard shares of Kane’s meet-and-greet with the Grammy winner. But unlike Kane, Savard hadn’t enrolled in T. Swift 101 and had to ask his wife who she was when he got home.

Much like the Blackhawks, the Washington Nationals have mixed feelings when it comes to Swift. After a power outage delayed a Nationals-Dodgers game on July 17, Washington’s ace Max Scherzer was quick to point a friendly finger at Swift. The pop star had a pair of concerts at the team’s home park during the All-Star break and dealt with electrical difficulties before the baseball team returned for their first home game of the second half.

Perhaps, this “blame Swift” strategy is one Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks should consider. After hanging with former Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire at the Met Ball in recent years, Swift decided to become a Knicks fan — and the team has fallen off significantly. The Knicks hit rock bottom with last season’s franchise-worst 17-65 mark as Swift attended some of the earlier games.

“So I’ve always had this sort of love of the Knicks, just because Amar’e is so cool,” Swift told Time last year.
