Police: Armed man was seeking church in Vidor to ‘fulfill prophecy’ – Seguin Gazette-Enterprise
Police say the man arrested carrying a gun in Seguin was seeking a church in the small East Texas town of Vidor to “fulfill a prophecy”
Monday afternoon the Seguin Police Department released more information about the arrest of Tony Dwayne Albert II that happened early Sunday morning including the name of the church and its location.
“During the preliminary interview with Albert he revealed that he was looking for the First Baptist Church in Vidor,” Seguin Police spokesperson Officer Tanya Brown said.
Albert was arrested after a concerned resident called in a suspicious person carrying a gun. When an off duty officer arrived, she found Albert walking eastbound in the 2200 block of West Kingsbury Street — toward Seguin — wearing tactical clothing and a surgical mask, carrying a gun and extra ammunition, Brown said.
During the investigation into the call, Albert was detained for possession of marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm.
It was reported that he told officers he was going to a church to “fulfill a prophecy, Brown said.
“He did not elaborate what that (the prophecy) entailed,” she said.
Detectives have also determined that the 9mm Smith and Wesson MP handgun that Tony Albert was carrying was stolen from a residence in Vidor, she said. “It is unknown at this time if Albert is responsible for the burglary of that home. “
Seguin police detectives notified officials in Vidor of the arrest and discovery of the gun, Brown said. Vidor police are conducting the investigation into the burglary.
“The Seguin Police Department will continue to work closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Texas Rangers and the Guadalupe County District Attorney’s Office,” she said. “It is unknown if additional charges will be filed at this point in the investigation.”
Albert was arrested and booked into Guadalupe County Jail on a charge of possession of marijuana and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
