“I thought he did, under the circumstances, very well. I told you over his final 11 games in the Arizona Fall League he batted .281 with an on-base percentage of .425, which is pretty good. And then with the Mets, the big league team, he went 4-for-20 with five strikeouts. But when he made contact, he made solid, hard contact. He made a couple nice plays in left or right field, both the corner outfield positions.
And I thought Sandy Alderson gave him a pretty glowing review. ‘He’s very athletic, he looks like a big league hitter, he doesn’t chase pitches. Maybe his swing’s a little long, but when he makes contact, he makes contact.’
And I love the phrase, he said [Tebow] ‘improved pretty dramatically.’ Which indicates what I’ve said from the start: Tim Tebow has a chance to make it to the big leagues. It’s a longshot chance, but it is a chance.”
