Veteran forward David Lee is expected to sign with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources told The Vertical.
Lee, a two-time All-Star, is planning to sign with the Mavericks for the prorated NBA room exception of $2.1 million after he clears waivers Sunday.
Lee was bought out by the Celtics on Friday and has said he will seek a winning situation in which he could receive a rotation role.
The Mavericks are in the process of deciding which player could be waived to create a roster spot, league sources said. Lee would provide the Mavericks with reserve scoring behind Dirk Nowitzki.
In 30 games for Boston this season, Lee averaged 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 15.7 minutes per game.
Lee, 32, is in his 11th season out of Florida and has career averages of 14.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He was the No. 30 overall pick by the New York Knicks in 2005 and signed a lucrative contract to join the Warriors in 2010, helping accelerate the franchise’s rebuild along with Stephen Curry.
Lee played a vital role in Golden State’s NBA Finals victory over Cleveland last year.
