Survey: Georgia schools lack at providing sports for girls | www.ajc.com – Atlanta Journal Constitution
High schools across the country aren’t doing a good job guaranteeing girls spots on sports teams, and Georgia is worst of all, according to a ranking on Title IX released by the National Women’s Law Center.
“Girls, Sports and Equality: A State-by-State Ranking on Title IX” shows the state ranks behind the other 49 states and the District of Columbia when it comes to providing sports for girls.
According to the survey, 4,500 of the 16,000 schools examined — about 28 percent — have large gaps in their gender equality when it comes to sports. In Georgia, 66.3 percent of schools have a large gender gap.
A large gender gap exists when the percentage of spots of sports teams is smaller than the number of female students by more than 10 percentage points.
