The 5 most overpaid athletes in Cleveland sports – cleveland.com
So this list isn’t easy.
When we compiled the most underpaid athletes in Cleveland, it wasn’t hard to get a list of 10 together. The intent was to get to 10 for this list of the most overpaid athletes as well. Who’s going to pass up a chance to tell a millionaire he’s not earning his keep?
But it couldn’t be done. This list isn’t 10 players long. And as a head’s up, there are no Cavs here.
From LeBron James ($30.9 million) to Kevin Love ($21.1 million) to Kyrie Irving ($17.6 million) to Tristan Thompson ($15.3 million) to J.R. Smith ($12.8 million), the Cavs pay their most important players the right amount of money.
Irving is obviously more valuable than Love. Iman Shumpert, next on the team in salary this season at $9.6 million, is questionable when he’s not in the rotation. But when he’s playing solid defense for 20 minutes per playoff game, as he’s been doing since sitting out Game 1 vs. Indiana, he’s earning that money.
So Shumpert didn’t deserve to be on a list like this. Neither did Love.
Meanwhile, the Browns are so young and have dumped so many veterans, they don’t have a lot of fat contracts on the roster for guys who aren’t doing much. But they have a couple.
So which Cleveland athletes did make this overpaid list? Here we go.
