The most important song in sports is not what you might think. It is not “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” It is not “We Are the Champions.” No, it is not even “Sandstorm” by Darude.
It’s “All Star,” by Smash Mouth. There are All Stars in every sport. The lyrics, “Getcha game on, go play” can be applied in any sports situation. This song needs our respect.
This is why I took it upon myself to bring to you the best version of the best sports song that can be found on the internet. You see, “All Star” is actually a meme.
YouTube users have been creating all sorts of versions of the 1999 hit since fall 2016. Here, I have compiled some of the best for your enjoyment.
Also, shoutout to James Nielssen, who seems to be the originator of this meme, or at least the most prolific editor.
Here’s the one I found first, and still one of my favorites:
Nielssen’s other great work is, in my opinion, using Windows XP sounds to create the song. He’s done this with other great musical masterpieces too.
I enjoy this one as well, which seems to have the line “don’t stop comin’” inserted into the lyrics at random. Also, around the 1:25 mark, there’s a surprise.
The very most important video, though, is a mashup of “All Star” and “Closer,” by The Chainsmokers. It might be a meme, but it’s actually the best song you will hear all week. Save yourself some time and add it to your playlist now.
Thank me later.
If, like me, you’re still obsessed with this pop sensation, here are some others to check out:
“All Star” but every time he says “hey now” the bass boosts 6 db and video distorts
“All Star” by Smash Mouth but it gets 15% faster every time he says “the”
“All Star” by Smash Mouth but every other word is reversed
Donald Trump Singing “All Star” by Smash Mouth
Disney Characters Sing “All Star” by Smash Mouth
“Bring me to Life” but it’s performed by Smash Mouth but it’s still to the tune of the original song
And a bonus for fans of The Killers:
“Mr. Brightside” except anytime a pronoun is used it gets faster
