Universal CityWalk: NBC Sports Grill & Brew to open in fall – Orlando Sentinel (blog)
Universal CityWalk will be the home of a large sports-driven restaurant named NBC Sports Grill & Brew.
The new eatery, set to open in early fall, currently is under construction at the site of the former NASCAR Sports Grille, which closed in November.
The NBC Sports Grill will feature 90 big screens, according to Monday’s announcement. Across the exterior front will be a high-definition screen that’s more than 100 feet wide, said Ric Florell, senior vice president and general manager, resort revenue operations.
The establishment will offer more than 100 beers, Florell said.
“We’re going to have some of our own brews that you will only be able to have here,” he said.
The menu will have more than 75 item selections, Florell said.
“The food is cooked right in the middle with an open kitchen with open flame kettle grills,” he said. Cameras will capture some cooking action, and that will also be shown on the restaurant’s monitors he said.
“Pick from traditional favorites like burgers and steaks to custom creations like crab scotch eggs,” wrote Modesto Alcala, vice president for revenue operations at Universal CityWalk, on Universal Orlando’s official blog.
The two-level restaurant will be able to seat more than 500 patrons and will have a flexible layout, Florell said. It will be divided into sections or “neighborhoods,” he said, so that “we can have private dining, we have areas for groups, we have areas we can set up for like-minded sports viewing or culinary viewing.”
Plans also include a separate, indoor-outdoor beer garden.
The announcement included a video featuring NBC sports anchors.
“It’s like a very big VIP suite,” Liam McHugh said in the video.
Universal Orlando Resort is part of NBCUniversal.
Universal CityWalk has been revamping its food offerings in recent months, opening and remodeling a number of establishments. Among the new restaurants are Cowfish, featuring beef and sushi; Vivo Italian Kitchen; Hot Dog Hall of Fame; and Antojitos, a Mexican outlet.
