Warren interrupted by protesters clamoring for legalization of illegal immigrants – Washington Examiner

PHILADELPHIA — Protesters interrupted a panel featuring 2020 hopeful Elizabeth Warren, asking if she would legalize millions of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. if she is elected president.

Warren was on stage at Netroots Nation when an activist stood on a chair and began yelling about immigration policies. Other activists held a sign that read, “Legalize 11 million, reunify all families.”

“Let’s talk about immigration,” Warren responded as the protesters continued yelling Saturday afternoon.

The moderators tried to quell the protesters, asking them to let Warren answer their question. “She can’t speak if you keep yelling,” a moderator said.

“So I’d like to talk about undocumented immigrants,” Warren said. “I’d liked to talk about mixed status families. I’d like to talk about an overhaul of our immigration system because that’s what we need. And it starts with the premise that immigration is good for this country. It makes us stronger.”

The protester on the chair was removed by security.

Warren otherwise received a warm welcome at the annual event for liberal activists. Attendees chanted “Warren! Warren! Warren!” and gave her a standing ovation as she walked on stage.
