ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) Jordan Spieth was one shot out of the lead and one round away from the third leg of the Grand Slam. Not since Bobby Jones has an amateur won the British Open, and then along came Paul Dunne with a bogey-free performance Sunday at St. Andrews that gave him a share of the lead.
When a shootout at St. Andrews ended Sunday, 14 players were separated by three shots. Half of them were major champions.
Dunne, the 22-year-old from Ireland, rolled in putts like this was the prestigious St. Andrews Links Trophy for amateurs instead of the oldest championship in golf. He played bogey-free for a 66 and shared the lead with former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and Jason Day.
SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) – Chella Choi defeated Ha Na Jang in a one-hole playoff Sunday to win the LPGA Marathon Classic. It was the first career victory for Choi, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2009. Jang is in her rookie year.
Choi parred the par-5, 532-yard 18th hole at Highland Meadows Golf Club for the win while Jang settled for a bogey.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) – Anne Park won the inaugural Toyota Danielle Downey Classic on Sunday for her first Symetra Tour title, holding off former Solheim Cup player Vicky Hurst.
Making her fourth professional start, the 20-year-old former Southern California player closed with a 4-under 68 at Brook-Lea Country Club for a one-stroke victory over Hurst. Park finished at 16-under 272.
HAYWARD, Calif. (AP) – South Korea’s Si Woo Kim won the Stonebrae Classic on Sunday for his first Web.com Tour title, birdieing the first hole of a playoff with Jamie Lovemark and Wes Roach.
The 20-year-old Kim is the second-youngest winner in Web.com Tour history. Jason Day was 19 when he won the 2007 Legend Financial Group Classic in Ohio. Kim won with a 3-foot putt on the par-5 18th after pitching from 50 yards.
STATELINE, Nev. (AP) – Mark Mulder won the American Century Championship on Sunday, holding off fellow former major league pitcher Eric Gagne by a point.
Mulder finished with 82 points at Edgewood Tahoe in the modified Stableford event. Players receive six points for eagle, three for birdie, one for par, none for bogey and minus-2 for double bogey or worse. Mulder had seven birdies and two bogeys for a 67 and a 30-point round. He earned $125,000.

SURFING
JOHANNESBURG (AP) – Knocked off his board by an attacking shark, three-time world champion Mick Fanning punched the creature before escaping unharmed during the televised finals of a world surfing competition in South Africa on Sunday.
The Australian surfer was struck by the shark from behind and knocked into the water as he sat on his board waiting his turn during the JBay Open in Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape Province. As he scans the water, two fins appear and with a splash he disappears under the surface. He is next seen furiously trying to swim to safety before a rescuer pulls him out of the water.
Fanning said at first he swam away but then decided to defend himself and turned to punch the shark in the back.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) – Newly unsealed documents in the case of a former college football player charged with violating North Carolina’s sports agent law suggest he funneled money to multiple Tar Heels players and set up meetings with agents and financial advisers trying to sign them to contracts.
Christopher Hawkins was arrested in May for providing former player Robert Quinn thousands of dollars and helping him sell game-used equipment in 2010, along with improperly contacting a UNC player in 2013 to talk about representation.
According to five search warrants unsealed Friday and reviewed by The Associated Press, Hawkins acted as ”an agent/runner” by befriending other athletes, providing illegal improper benefits and brokering meetings with agents and advisers despite not being registered as required by law.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Brett Favre had his No. 4 jersey retired by the Green Bay Packers on Saturday night before being inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame in a ceremony inside Lambeau Field.
It was the first time in the team’s storied history that a player received both honors at the same time. It was a moment that some Packers fans thought would never come, not after the ”will he-or-won’t he retire” drama that marked the end of his 16-year tenure in Titletown. He was traded to the New York Jets in 2008, then played two more seasons with division rival Minnesota starting in 2009 before calling it quits for good.
Now a reconciliation that has been years in the making is finally complete.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr’s son said his father’s health is improving following two strokes and a mild heart attack.
Bart Starr Jr, said Saturday night that that his 81-year-old father had started ”turning the corner in a significant way.” Starr’s family said last month that he was participating in a clinical trial using stem cells as a possible treatment for strokes. Starr fell ill in September.

BALTIMORE (AP) – Clint Dempsey scored on a fourth-minute header, added a pair of second-half goals for his first international hat trick, and the United States routed Cuba 6-0 on Saturday to reach its eighth straight CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal.
Dempsey converted a penalty kick early in the second half and added a late goal to raise his tournament-leading total to six. Gyasi Zardes, Aron Johannsson and Omar Gonzalez also scored as the Americans built a 4-0 halftime lead against a Cuban team depleted by five absent players who may have defected.
In Wednesday’s semifinal at Atlanta, the Americans will play Jamaica.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) – After 20 years and 1,609 consecutive home games, the Los Angeles Angels finally lost another game to rain.
Heavy downpours turned Angel Stadium’s outfield into virtual marshlands Sunday night, forcing the postponement of their game against the Boston Red Sox. Los Angeles will host its first doubleheader since 2003 on Monday.
The Angels were rained out at home for just the 16th time in their 55-year franchise history. They hadn’t even had a rain delay in a stretch of 359 regular-season home games since April 24, 2011.
CINCINNATI (AP) – Hard-throwing Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman set a major league record for the fastest to reach 500 career strikeouts.
Chapman, who routinely throws over 100 mph, reached the mark when he fanned pinch-hitter Giovanny Urshela to end the 10th inning Sunday in Cincinnati’s game against Cleveland. The All-Star lefty needed just 292 innings to reach 500 strikeouts. The previous mark was by San Diego’s Craig Kimbrel, who got to 500 in his 305th inning on May 25.

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) – Kyle Busch continues to find victory lane and is moving closer to landing a spot in the Chase.
Busch’s dominant comeback rolled on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway when he won for the second straight weekend and for the third time in the last four NASCAR Sprint Cup races. He broke his right leg and left foot in a crash the day before the season-opening Daytona 500. He missed the first 11 races of the season, then returned in late May determined to earn a berth in NASCAR’s championship playoffs.

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) – American Rajeev Ram won the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships for the second time, beating second-seeded Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (5), 5-7, 7-6 (2).
The 31-year-old Ram, ranked 161st, also won on Newport’s grass courts in 2009. The two titles are his only victories on the ATP Tour.
