The American Hockey Revolution – Wall Street Journal

Thursday, April 14, 2016

ENLARGE President Obama needled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau last month by suggesting that the United States was better at hockey than its Northern neighbor. “Where’s the Stanley Cup right now?” Obama asked. “I’m sorry, is it in my hometown with the Chicago Blackhawks? In case you Canadians were wondering, where is it?” Trudeau made a meek reference to the higher number of Canadian born players on the Blackhawks’ cup…

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Caption Close NORWALK — As far as varsity debuts go, Norwalk pitcher Angel Nieves is certainly going to remember his for a long time. The senior right-hander was thrown into the fire by coach Pete Tucci, sent to the mound with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning of a tied game. Nieves slammed the door shut on Danbury, notching a strikeout to get out of the…

Why I Stopped Caring About Baseball – The Root

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Once my uncles got me into it, I became a baseball savant. I knew all the stats on each player and position because that directly impacted what I thought a card was worth. I was a card shark in these streets, buying up packs of Upper Deck, Donruss, Topps and Fleer cards and then buying Beckett’s baseball-card pricing guides every few months to keep up with my investment. I still…

Actually, Chance the Rapper is exactly who baseball needs – FOXSports.com

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Chance the Rapper threw out the first pitch at the White Sox home opener in the worst kind of Chicago weather. Not a blizzard, but godforsaken April snow. April snow in Chicago is a rabbit punch from the devil himself, so Chance played it safe and floated the ball heavenward. And then he danced, because that is what Chance the Rapper does, and all was right and good at U.S. Cellular…

The casual hockey fan’s guide to the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs – FOXSports.com

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

When it comes to the postseason in professional sports, there is nothing better than the Stanley Cup playoffs. This is hockey at its very best. The games are fast-paced and full of hard hits, grueling shifts and incredible feats of athleticism that most can’t dream of achieving on land, never mind on ice. Combined with the fact that the playoffs boast a sudden-death overtime, the NHL’s postseason is must-see TV….

‘Duck Dynasty’ star’s NASCAR prayer enrages liberals – Fox News

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

My good buddy Phil Robertson has drawn the ire of a bunch of Jesus-bashing, liberal lug nuts after he petitioned the Lord during a NASCAR invocation to put a “Jesus-Man in the White House.” Brother Phil delivered the pre-race invocation on April 9th at the Texas Motor Speedway’s Duck Commander 500. And it was a mighty fine invocation, indeed. Click here to join Todd’s American Dispatch: a must-read…

Drone racing just became a mainstream sport, thanks to ESPN – Quartz

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

There’s a hotel in Williamsburg—the expensive part of Brooklyn that still feels ‘edgy’ to a certain set—called the Wythe. It’s a trendy restored warehouse that often hosts hip soirees and parties for famous brands. On a freezing January evening, its exposed-brick walls and man-bunned bartenders hosted a launch party for a new sports league, called The Drone Racing League. It’s the brainchild of Nick Horbaczewski, who previously helped turn Tough…

E-Sports Are Bringing Play and Performance Back to Video Games – Slate Magazine

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

In contrast, e-sports games are unending tests of skill and dedication, not the intricately crafted but finite experiences of narratively rich blockbuster titles. E-sports games are more similar to basketball or chess than to The Last of Us, which unfolds like an interactive movie. In Dota 2, you enter the matchmaking queue to look for other people to play with. After choosing their characters, or “heroes,” each team of five…
