Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is coming off a tremendous rookie campaign in 2016, in which he batted .299/.376/.657 with 20 home runs in 53 games. Needless to say, the Dominican Republic would love to have their hard-hitting, 24-year-old native son on their roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic. 2017 Fantasy Baseball draft strategy: Can we afford to doubt Eduardo Nunez with stolen base scarcity? – CBSSports.com

Wednesday, February 08, 2017

I don’t want Eduardo Nunez this year, and neither do you. He’s one of the more obvious regression candidates coming off a 2016 in which he ranked eighth and fifth at shortstop in Head-to-Head points and Rotisserie leagues despite having never before performed like a viable major-league starter. In fact, it may have already started in his half-season with the San Francisco Giants . He hit only .244 with a…

Baseball is courting sweet, sweet chaos if it messes around with the strike zone – SB Nation

Tuesday, February 07, 2017

Baseball wants shorter games. Baseball wants more offense. We’ve been through this before: They’re a mad scientist, alone in a lab, trying to find the secret formula for exercise pie. They’ve figured out that exercise helps people stay fit, and they’ve figured out that pie is delicious, but when they combine the two, they hit a wall. It’s not looking good, but bless them for trying. More than short games,…

2017 Fantasy Baseball draft strategy: Assessing risks of aging stars like Josh Donaldson, Joey Votto, Miguel Cabrera – CBSSports.com

Tuesday, February 07, 2017

There’s nothing magical about 30 that makes a player more likely to start to decline at that age, but it’s a useful round number when we start to look at players who might be on the downside of their careers. Every player doesn’t age the same, of course. Bryce Harper may have peaked at 22, while Jose Bautista didn’t even get going until he was nearly 30. Latest mocks, tiers,…

Column: It is almost baseball season – The Daily Tar Heel

Tuesday, February 07, 2017

Tyler Fleming | Published 45 minutes ago Opinion editor Tyler Fleming Baseball is back. Football is dead. Well football isn’t dead, but it might as well be. Baseball is the better sport, and I am just one of many people trying to make this claim. Football brings out the worst in us. It encourages violence, inflicts pain and causes life-threatening concussions. Baseball has its fair share of injuries, but they…

The gist: I looked at all four-year season stretches dating back to 1900, with at least 200 plate appearances in each…

The state of baseball’s worst teams – ABC News

A mini-autobiography: After several years as a full-on, gung-ho NBA writer and analyst, I was suddenly asked last July to pitch in to help with the endless furor for Chicago Cubs content. It wasn’t a totally out-of-left-field proposition; I was a baseball guy before I was a basketball guy. After a period of reacclimation, I was lucky enough to help cover the sports story of a lifetime, all the way…

Baseball’s proposed pace of play changes do not include a pitch clock – CBSSports.com

Monday, February 06, 2017

Improved pace of play has been a priority for MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, who is entering his third full season running the game. That the average contest lasted about four minutes longer in 2016 than 2015 undoubtedly irked Manfred. Unsurprisingly, some rule changes could be coming down the pipe that should shorten games. The most commonly suggested tweak — installing a pitch clock, similar to the one implemented throughout the…
