Who’s the big Dawg on baseball playoff rosters? S-E-C! – FOXSports.com

Saturday, October 10, 2015

David Price couldn’t resist showing a little school spirit. The Blue Jays ace had just pitched seven shutout innings to win at Yankee Stadium in early August, boosted by Justin Smoak’s grand slam. A half-hour later, while Smoak talked softly in the middle of the clubhouse about his big shot, Price sneaked up behind him. ”S-E-C! S-E-C!” Price hollered. Waving toward Toronto teammate Josh Donaldson, the lefty from Vanderbilt let…

The worst part of baseball is baseball… but it’s worth it – SB Nation

Saturday, October 10, 2015

The worst part of baseball is baseball. Last year, I followed my Kansas City Royals through one of the most fantastic postseasons in baseball history. Or at least, I believe the run had historical significance. I was born in 1985 and had never seen my team in the playoffs. I hadn’t followed playoff baseball in general. For almost 30 years, being a Royals fan meant summer nights, burnt end…

The Blue Jays just learned instant replay can’t stop baseball from being cruel – SB Nation

Saturday, October 10, 2015

The Blue Jays won 11 straight games after the trade deadline. They won six in a row heading into the last week of the regular season, and they’ve won three in a row against the Rangers this year. They can win three games again. But, yeah. This isn’t going well. Baseball giveth, baseball taketh away, baseball flushes the toilet when you’re taking a shower, and baseball steals your credit…

Cardinals to upstart Cubs: This is why we’re the baseball standard – New York Post

Saturday, October 10, 2015

ST. LOUIS — Welcome to the heart of baseball’s oldest rivalry and yet another October example of The Cardinal Way. The Northeast has the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, but here in the Midwest it is all about the Cubs and Cardinals. The Cardinals once again put on a postseason baseball clinic that would make Branch Rickey proud. Veteran John Lackey was magnificent through 7 ¹/₃ innings and two Cardinals rookies, Tommy…

This Blue Jays-Rangers ump has a baseball-sized wad of dip in his face – SB Nation

The first base ump in the Rangers-Blue Jays game has the biggest dip I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/73Kqa8d6Cw — gifdsports (@gifdsports) October 9, 2015 The first base umpire at Friday’s ALDS Game 2, Alfonso Marquez, is enjoying some some dip, and boy, is it a great volume of dip. That is an absurd amount of dip that ump is working with. #MLB…

Kyle Schwarber hits a golf ball just like a baseball – Chicago Sun-Times – Breaking News (blog)

Friday, October 09, 2015

Unsurprisingly, Chicago Cubs rookie Kyle Schawrber mashes a golf ball just like he does to a baseball. According to the video’s description on YouTube, Schwarber hit the drive at Shaker Run Golf Course in Cincinnati. The poster, Chris Welsh, estimates that Schwarber’s drive over a lake went 370 yards. Schwarber and the Cubs begin their divisional round series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night.

Baseball’s tallest pitcher comes up big in losing effort for Royals – For The Win

Friday, October 09, 2015

KANSAS CITY — The Royals’ hopes of advancing past the ALDS took a big blow on Thursday night with their 5-2 loss at the hands of the Houston Astros at Kauffman Stadium. One game, obviously, does not decide a best-of-five series, but Kansas City essentially relinquished its home-field advantage with the loss and still stand to face Astros ace Dallas Keuchel in Game 3 of the series. It’s a tough…

What the Rock Hall can learn from Baseball Hall of Fame’s induction process – cleveland.com

Friday, October 09, 2015

CLEVELAND, Ohio – It never fails. This time every year, someone has a complaint: What about ELO? Where’s The Moody Blues? Can Journey get some love? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction process is one of the most polarizing things in music. This year’s list of nominees includes everyone from hip-hop legend N.W.A. to influential hard-rockers Deep Purple? As is the case with any worthwhile Hall of Fame,…

Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: MLB DraftKings Optimal Playoff Lineup for October 9 – Bleacher Report

Friday, October 09, 2015

Among the four games on Friday’s MLB postseason schedule, DraftKings daily fantasy players have several quality pitching options to choose from. Clayton Kershaw was often an easy selection to make during the regular season, but is it worth spending $15,000 on him in the playoffs, where he has a 5.12 ERA over 51 career innings? Along with big bats like Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion, the following lineup features several…

Baseball Analyst Jessica Mendoza on Sexist Backlash: ‘He Came After Me Because … – ABC News

Thursday, October 08, 2015

Jessica Mendoza, whose history-making broadcast debut as Major League Baseball’s first female analyst in a post-season game prompted a sexist backlash, is taking the situation in stride. “Any time there is a change, there’s normally a lot of resistance. I think the [thing I was most] excited about was the aftermath and how much support there really was,” she said today on “Good Morning America.” “Yes, I am a female,…

Theo Epstein rewards baseball department for job well done – Chicago Tribune

Thursday, October 08, 2015

Theo Epstein gets most of the credit for building the Cubs team that advanced to the National League Division Series with their wild-card win over the Pirates on Wednesday night. As president of the baseball operations department, he made the personnel decisions and brought in the people who helped make the changes that resulted in this dream season. But Epstein is the first to acknowledge the work of dozens of…
