Brett Phillips’s Laugh Remains The Best Thing In Baseball – Deadspin
Brett Phillips, the Brewers’ 21-year-old outfielder, won’t make the big club out of camp, though as one of the franchise’s better prospects, it wouldn’t be crazy to see him come up later this year. In the meantime he’s here to get better, and to show coaches what he can do, and maybe some other baseball stuff. He’s really here for everyone to marvel at his bizarre laugh. Like pitcher Will…

Donald Trump Made Golf Great Again. Now the Sport’s Bigwigs Are Wishing He Hadn’t. – Slate Magazine
In the aftermath of the financial crisis, Trump played the part of golf’s savior, swooping in and buying a number of prestigious-but-failing courses in the United States and abroad. He renovated the properties and marketed them to golf’s ruling bodies, which, swayed by promises of profit, lined up to stage exhibitions, tour stops, and major championships on Trump courses. Among those events is the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral…
NASCAR’s CEO endorsed Donald Trump, which contradicts everything the sport now stands for – SB Nation
Right at the intersection between sports and politics: that’s where NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France placed himself on Monday, when he publicly endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a rally on the campus of Valdosta (Ga.) State University. France’s endorsement was a “private personal decision by Brian,” a NASCAR spokesman said in a statement to SB Nation. Despite NASCAR’s quick clarification, the line between what France says…

Here Come The Rosters And Jerseys For The World Cup Of Hockey – Deadspin
The World Cup of Hockey, which will see eight national (sort of) teams face off in Toronto in September for a tournament that should be heavy on NHLers, excitement, and totally acceptable obnoxious jingoism. (Fuck you, Canada! Your exchange rates are currently unfavorable for you!) The team logos, via Sportsnet, are above. The tournament itself is six months out, but the teams are today releasing their preliminary rosters—the first 16…
Three points for a goal? League 1 America: the soccer revolution that never was – The Guardian (blog)
Two weeks ago Jim Paglia, a 63-year-old businessman, was moving home. The boxes in his new house no doubt contained possessions of personal interest. But hidden amongst the stacks was also a collection of documents that would intrigue the soccer public too. The boxes contained perhaps the last remnants of a failed bid against MLS’s claim to America’s first-division status: proposals for a single-entity league that looked to radically Americanize…
Are we still smuggling Cuban baseball players to the US? – The Week Magazine
Baseball agent Bart Hernandez was arrested in February on human trafficking charges for smuggling Cuban outfielder Leonys Martin to the U.S. in 2010, according to a Yahoo Sports report. While the alleged smuggling occurred well before the unthawing of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba in 2015, the illegal and dangerous practice doesn’t appear to have an end in sight. The recent defection of Cuban ball-playing brothers Lourdes and…
